28. Charley Varrick (1973)
Great thriller directed by Don Siegel (who also directed Dirty Harry,amongst many others.)
Matthau stars as a bank robber who unwittingly steals mob money being stored in a small town bank and is then pursued by both the mafia and the cops.
Quite a leisurely paced movie,but Matthau,sleazy Joe Don Baker and smarmy John Vernon keep things moving along nicely and i really like this film a lot. Matthau’s partner in crime,Andy Robinson,played The Zodiac Killer in Dirty Harry. He’s slightly less mental in this film!
